Significance of the Blindfold — A Journey Through the Seven Foundations
When a Dancer places this blindfold over their eyes, they enter a sacred arc — a movement through the Seven Foundations of Dance of Liberation, where each step leads them closer to themselves and the journey completes itself in wholeness.
The Center — Meeting the Self Within
At the heart of the design lives a radiant center point.
This is the place of Within — where the dancer meets themselves without roles, without story, without expectation.
It is here that the Seven Foundations begin and end.
Each foundation is not something to achieve, but something to remember through the body.
As the eyes soften, the dancer listens inward and allows movement to rise from truth rather than instruction.
The Geometry — The Architecture of the Seven
The sacred geometry woven throughout the design reflects the intelligent order that underlies all movement.
It mirrors the Seven Foundations themselves — distinct, interconnected, and inseparable.
Each line and intersection echoes the lived experience of the dance: structure and
freedom moving together,
form giving way to feeling,
feeling giving way to integration.
As the dancer moves through the foundations, the geometry holds the continuity of the whole.
The Four Directions — Walking the Circle
Extending from the center are four feathered directions, marking the Medicine Wheel and the lived path of the dancer.
Each direction becomes a doorway through the Seven Foundations:
- East — arrival, breath, the courage to begin
- South — expression, vitality, and embodied innocence
- West — surrender, feeling, and the wisdom of descent
- North — integration, stillness, and embodied knowing
As the dancer moves through these directions, they complete a full circle — returning not to where they started, but to who they are now.
Above & Below — The Vertical Axis of Wholeness
The vertical geometry within the design connects sky and earth, spirit and body.
It reflects the foundation of presence — standing fully between worlds.
The dancer becomes the meeting place
where instinct meets insight,
where breath meets gravity,
where movement becomes prayer.
The Eagle — Ally of Highest Vision
On the reverse side, the Eagle emerges as an ally and spirit guide.
The Eagle dances people into their highest vision, carrying them through the wings of the heart rather than the eyes. It teaches perspective beyond fear and reminds the dancer that vision lives within the body.
Worn as a blindfold, the Eagle invites trust — trust in instinct, in intuition, in the intelligence of movement itself.
Winged Ones — Remembering How to Fly
In the creation of this blindfold, we honor the Winged Ones, beings who remind us of our capacity to rise, to expand, and to see from higher ground.
This blindfold is an offering for the dancer to spread their wings higher and higher, to move beyond limitation and to embody the full arc of their becoming.
What the Blindfold Ultimately Represents
This blindfold carries the essence of liberation.
Liberation to release performance
Liberation to release expectation
Liberation to release the need to be seen
Liberation to trust the wisdom of the body
Through the Seven Foundations, liberation unfolds not as escape, but as return — a return to wholeness, authenticity, and embodied truth.
The Closing Circle
Along the lower edge, a quiet truth is inscribed:
Once we Dance in this way, our life is forever changed.
Because when the dancer completes the circle — when they meet themselves fully —something essential is remembered.
And from that remembering, life continues differently.
